What it is
The Church Counseling Cohort equips women in ministry to confidently and biblically care for the everyday counseling conversations God brings into their lives. Through practical training, biblical wisdom, and real-life experience, participants will learn how to listen well, ask wise questions, apply Scripture with compassion, recognize when additional help is needed, and walk alongside others without carrying burdens they were never meant to bear.
Why Churches should invest
Every church has women who are already counseling others, whether they feel qualified or not. Pastor's and deacon's wives, women's ministry leaders, small group leaders, staff members, and faithful volunteers regularly walk with women through grief, anxiety, marriage struggles, parenting crises, addiction, abuse, and spiritual discouragement.
The Church Counseling Cohort equips these women to care well, use Scripture wisely, know their limits, and work alongside pastoral leadership rather than independently. Healthy churches are strengthened when those who are already having these conversations are equipped to handle them with biblical wisdom and discernment. Investing in one woman can multiply biblical care throughout an entire church.

Meet Heather Teis
For more than twenty-three years, Heather Teis has served in local church ministry alongside her husband, Josh, helping people navigate life's hardest questions through the wisdom and sufficiency of God's Word. Her ministry experience includes serving as a Women's Ministry leader, speaker, teacher, and Counseling Director, where she developed and led a volunteer counseling ministry, trained counseling volunteers, and connected individuals with appropriate care and follow-up. She has also received years of biblical counseling training through Debbie Pryde and continues to be a committed student of Scripture and biblical counseling.
Over the years, Heather has walked alongside women facing anxiety, depression, grief, marriage struggles, prodigal children, forgiveness, addiction, abuse, and countless other challenges that arise in everyday ministry. These conversations have taken place not only in formal counseling settings, but in living rooms, after church services, at retreats, over coffee, in hospital waiting rooms, and through the ordinary moments where ministry so often happens. She has also become a trusted resource for pastor's wives and women's ministry leaders seeking wisdom for difficult counseling situations.
Her approach is deeply rooted in Scripture while remaining practical and compassionate. Rather than attempting to replace pastors or licensed professionals, Heather is passionate about equipping women in ministry to faithfully serve in the role God has already given them. She believes that many women feel unprepared to counsel simply because no one has ever trained them, even though they are already having these conversations every week.
The Church Counseling Cohort was created to bridge that gap. Combining biblical truth with practical ministry experience, Heather equips women to listen well, ask thoughtful questions, apply Scripture wisely, recognize when additional help is needed, and confidently walk with people toward Christ. Her desire is not to create professional counselors, but faithful women who are prepared to care for those God has already placed in their lives and ministries.
